About the Maroon Nation

The Maroon Nation is a sovereign Indigenous community descended from African, Aboriginal, Moorish and Taíno peoples who refused enslavement and colonization. For centuries, we have maintained our culture, language, and governance in the remote mountains and forests of Jamaica.

Today, we are a beacon of resilience for Indigenous peoples worldwide. Our mission is rooted in the principles of UNDRIP and ILO C169, which affirm our right to self-determination, cultural preservation, and legal recognition.

We invite all Indigenous and tribal peoples — in Jamaica and across the globe — to reconnect with their heritage, correct their legal status, and stand with us in reclaiming our rightful place in the family of nations.

Our Mission

To promote, protect, and defend the inherent rights of Indigenous and tribal peoples as enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the International Labour Organization's Convention 169 (ILO C169).

We work tirelessly to ensure that every Indigenous person can:

• Reclaim and proudly affirm their indigenous identity.
• Obtain legal documentation that reflects their true status.
• Access their rights to land, culture, and self-governance.
• Participate fully in decisions that affect their lives.

Through education, advocacy, and direct services, we are building a global movement of Indigenous peoples reclaiming their power.
